"The UN Day of General Discussion on children with imprisoned parents was a huge success.
We are so pleased to have been involved in such an important landmark for our cause.
The conference discussed two working groups of children. The first consisted of babies and children living with or visiting a parent in prison. The second consisted of those children left ‘outside’ when their parents are incarcerated.
Both groups made impressive contributions to the conversation surrounding this vulnerable group of children.
EUROCHIPS was well represented amongst the delegates from various organizations and networks such as the Childs Rights Information Network, the COPING project, Penal Reform International, Defence for Children International Belgium, International Baby Food Network, International Child Rights Bureau, Action for Prisoners’ Families, Prison Fellowship International, Penal Reform and Justice Association, Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child, Prison Advisory Care Trust, HAQ Centre for Childs Rights, Organisation for Families and Friends of Prisoners, SOS Children’s Village, Morning tears, and Amnesty International.
It was amazing to have such a dedicated group of individuals together to discuss the various elements surrounding children with imprisoned parents such as:
-their right to know the truth of their parents’ incarceration
-maintaining family ties
-adequate training for prison staff and caregivers
-prison reform suggestions

Overall the whole event was a great way to recognize the rights of children with imprisoned parents. We are very honored and proud to have been involved in such an important conference.
As always, thank you for stopping by to help us help them."
